Case of the Day: Varicose Veins Due to an Incompetent Perforator Vein
Today, Dr. Paulo Huachalla, a Cardiovascular Surgeon and varicose vein specialist, examines the case of a patient presenting with an incompetent perforator vein. Perforator veins are part of the venous system; they carry blood from the superficial venous system toward the deep muscular system. In this case, the blood flows in the opposite direction (from deep to superficial) causing the formation of varicose veins.
As a result of this diseased vein, we observe varicose veins extending from the incompetent perforator toward the great saphenous vein and spreading into varicose tributaries. Doppler ultrasound is essential to identify the leakage point, which is why a complete evaluation by a varicose vein specialist -a cardiovascular surgeon- is so important to provide a comprehensive treatment plan.
And remember: in Lima, Dr. Paulo Huachalla Coronel is considered by many patients and colleagues to be the best cardiovascular surgeon in Peru. Contact us today to request information about varicose vein treatments and varicose vein surgery costs—we’re here to help.
