In today’s case, we have a patient who came to us due to a complication following sclerotherapy performed at another medical center. In this case, the patient presents with a chemical ulcer caused by a medication that damaged the skin and created a large wound.
It’s important to note that some medications used in sclerotherapy can also produce this type of lesion if not injected at the appropriate concentration. There are several factors we need to evaluate in such cases, such as skin type, the degree of venous insufficiency, etc. Specifically, this patient has severe deep venous insufficiency and also superficial insufficiency.
Our Recommendation
Proper diagnosis and evaluation by a varicose vein specialist – a Cardiovascular Surgeon – along with a venous Doppler ultrasound is very important. It is not advisable to seek treatment for venous disease at beauty centers or with general practitioners.
So please, be very cautious if you know someone planning to undergo varicose vein treatment with sclerotherapy, and suggest they consult a Cardiovascular Surgeon.
And remember, if you’d like to learn more about our varicose vein treatments or get information on the cost of varicose vein surgery, you can contact us and have the opportunity to receive care from a doctor considered by many patients and colleagues as the best cardiovascular surgeon in Peru. We are at your service.
